The SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate is a highly effective solution to keep non-target species out of your SAFEBOX® trap box. The chewable card slides into the molded grooves in any of the compatible SAFEBOX® range. Once the cards are installed, they physically exclude non-target species such as slugs, snails, and birds from entering the box and being harmed. Stopping slugs and snails entering the box means the attractant can’t be eaten and is always ready for when your target species enters the box.
The SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate is made from wax-coated cardboard, with a series of holes punched into it allowing the smell of any attractant to exit the SAFEBOX®. The safety plate is great for use where a wildlife impact assessment has been carried out, and non-target species are present in numbers that could be considered a risk.
Once the card has been chewed and the rodent has been caught then a simple swap to a new card will keep your traps and non-target species safe.
How long does a SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate last?
If a SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate isn’t chewed then it should last indefinitely if it doesn’t get wet. The wax coating on the plate will protect it from damp air and light moisture.
What should I do if the plate has been chewed but I haven’t caught anything?
A chewed plate, but no catch may mean that a catch is imminent. Rodents will go back and forth from a box and may interact with the traps after your inspection. If you have found this situation in your SAFEBOX® then leave it for another week. If when you return you still haven’t caught anything then replace the SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate with a fresh one as the rodent may no longer be in the area, or could have been predated on.
Will it put rodents off using the SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate?
No, rodents are always chewing and they have to chew to keep their teeth from growing too long. Any rodent that wants to get into a SAFEBOX® will make very light work of a SAFEBOX® Chewable By-Catch Plate.
